Service Description

2026 DATES: October 29th 5.30-7pm or 7.30-9pm October 30th 5.30-7pm or 7.30-9pm (To be notified of 2027 dates, please email chloe.gourmetgatherings@gmail.com) Together with the brilliant David Atthowe of Reveal Nature (arguably the world expert on biofluorescence, he's currently writing the first ever book on the subject!), we are delighted to offer you a unique, exciting, and mind-blowing opportunity to see the forest & its dwellers in a whole new light, as we explore biofluorescence in magical ancient woodland, on a nighttime adventure! Unlike the vast majority of species, us humans can’t see biofluorescence unaided, but armed with a special UV torch, the forest transforms into a neon light show! We can find fluorescing fungi (October is prime mushroom season!), snails, slugs, centipedes, caterpillars, woodlice, worms, plants & flowers, and myriads more, it’s incredible to see the forest in a whole new light - literally! This will be a chance to connect with nature in a way that is both educational, as we discover and discuss how, and why, species might employ biofluorescence, as well as awe-inspiring to witness! It is one of Nature’s greatest hidden secrets, who knows what we might find by combining mine and David’s knowledge, passion and curiosity for nature, his expertise in biofluorescent fungi, flora and fauna is remarkable! We will meet in Wentwood Forest's ancient woodland, which offers an amazing array of fauna, flora & fungi. David will give us a brief introduction to the magic of Biofluorescence, then we'll gear up with UV torches, special goggles and headlamps, before we excitedly embark on our adventure, discovering the spectacular hidden-in-plain-sight neon colours of the forest! We will see incredible biofluorescent secrets revealed in the organisms we encounter, undoubtedly there will be new and exciting discoveries for our guests, and us; almost every time we host these sessions in Wentwood, we find something new! We are so excited to bring you this offering, the first time you explore the forest in this way is absolutely mind-blowingly amazing, we can’t wait to share it with you! Please be aware that for safety reasons, guests must be aged 8+. Unfortunately dogs aren't able to join us on this event. Events will go ahead regardless of weather unless dangerous to do so. Kindly permitted by Natural Resources Wales, a fixed % of what you pay goes towards the curation and protection of the forest.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel or reschedule your booked experience, please contact us at least 14 days before the date of the event. It is not possible to offer a refund for any cancelled bookings made within the appropriate time frame, for which alternative dates are available, you can instead retain credit for a future date, which will remain valid for 2 years. If the weather is prohibitive whereby it could be dangerous to proceed, we will contact you in advance to rearrange. Experiences will go ahead in all weather conditions unless it would be dangerous to do so. Gift vouchers are valid for redemption for 2 years after purchase.

  • Up to two children 14 and under may attend most group foraging experiences for free with their paying parent/guardian, with the exception of weaving, fermenting and alcohol workshops & the biofluorescent adventures, for safety reasons.

  • The exact location of each event and associated informaion on what to bring and what to wear etc, will be shared with you by email after booking.

  • The routes that I take my guests on are generally gentle and suitable for all ages and fitness levels, please email to check suitability if you have any preventative mobility issues and I'll do my best to accommodate.

  • All foraging experiences can be tailored to a guest's specific needs, please get in touch with any particular concerns or enquiries.

  • Foraging excursion locations are usually within 20 minutes drive of Chepstow, however I can offer courses throughout Monmouthshire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and beyond, just get in touch!

  • I usually limit my groups to 8-15 adults maximum, depending on the experience in question, for larger group enquiries please get in touch, or if a date that you selected is showing as unavailable as it may be fully-booked, please get in touch directly and I will do my best to accommodate you.

  • If a time different from advertised suits you better, just email me before you book and we can make alternative arrangements.

  • If weather conditions on the day do not lend themselves to foraging, we can rearrange your trip for another day at no cost to you, up to 2 years from the original booking purchase date. I will contact you in advance to give you the option to re-book if the weather looks unsuitable.

  • Gift vouchers are valid for redemption for 2 years after purchase.
